Home Access

Access to technology at home benefits learners in a range of different ways:

  • Improving learning and achievement
  • Motivating and engaging children
  • Encouraging independence and creativity
  • Connecting learning at school and at home
  • Helping parents and carers get more involved.

The government's vision is to ensure that all pupils in state maintained education in England have the opportunity to have access to computers and internet connectivity for education at home.

The Home Access programme is providing the encouragement and funding to achieve this. Following a successful pilot in Oldham and Suffolk, the programme is being rolled out nationally, initially targeting learners in years 3 to 9 that currently lack access to computers and the internet. Recent evidence suggests that young people with a computer at home could get a B, rather than a D, at GCSE.

All schools can get involved in the national rollout of the Home Access programme. Find out about the benefits of home access, how we will be supporting you and what you can do now.

Many local authorities are already involved in providing home access to targeted groups. For national rollout, you will have the opportunity to drive home access in your local authority and we will work with you to make sure you have the right tools to do that.

The Home Access programme is an exciting opportunity for suppliers, because learners qualifying for funding will only be able to buy compliant packages from approved suppliers.

Pre-qualification applications for providing Assistive Technology Equipment Supply and Associated Services, and Learner Evaluation and Management Services are now closed.
