FITS OM: Pilot

Before you implement the Security Administration strategy, it is usually helpful to run an extended test - creating user IDs and RBAC profiles, encryption software, auditing security logs and so on - this is called a pilot.

You should pilot any new process or macro you plan to use to automate the creation of new users for the following reasons:

  • To make certain that the process actually works
  • To check that the people who are to use the process are familiar with it and have received adequate training
  • To ensure that, if a problem occurs, support is available to resolve the incident.

Review the pilot

Conducting the pilot will prove your overall Security Administration strategy. When you review the implementation you need to be assured that you can apply your procedures to the live school environment.

If problems have occurred during the pilot, revisit the processes and run another pilot before implementing.
